Hardwood is the wood of a broad-leaved tree, as distinguished from a conifer. Heartwood is the older, central wood of a tree, usually darker and harder than its sapwood.

1). Rhodesian Teak (Boikiaea plurijuga):
Grown in Zambia and Zimbabwe, the rich deep red-brown heartwood of Rhodesian Teak is marked with irregular black lines or flecks. Its straight, interlocked grain with fine even texture provides a smooth, lustrous surface ideal for both indoor and outdoor flooring and fine furniture.

Also known as "Pod Mahogany," Chamfuti is a light red timber, hard with a fine grain which. Yields a lustrous finish. It is used in furniture, paneling and flooring blocks.

5). Panga-Panga (Millettia Laurentii)
Also known as "Wenge," this wood color ranges from dark brown to almost black with rose hues. Finely grained, it resembles a partridge feather. This excellent quality wood is used for flooring and furniture.

This very dark colored wood is extremely hard and heavy. (Will not float in water.) It is used mostly for ornaments and carvings. Leadwood is difficult wood to work, rapidly breaking and blunting tools, which eliminates its use for furniture. (See Leadwood Bowls).
